The Story

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada’s (BGCC) greatest asset is their relationship with their youth and the wonderful stories of impact that they have to share. Previously, the organization was unable to leverage and harness the power of their website due to challenges of publishing content quickly and efficiently on the old platform. Their goal for the new website was to ensure that this would not happen again. The mandate was for all BGCC Web Administrators with varying technical abilities to be able to easily publish exciting and engaging content of all kinds—not just copy, but also photos, videos, audio and documents.

K.I.S.S. (Keeping It Simple to Share)

Content is king, and in this situation, the stories shared by BGCC’s stakeholders is what drives the whole organization. Our focus was to create a platform that provides an easy way to publish all forms of content (copy, photos, and videos…) and ensure open channels of communication. We not only kept it simple–we made sure it was simple to share even when users were publishing from a mobile device.

Showcasing the Breadth of Services

The new site was designed to make it easy for all intended audiences to learn and discover more about BGCC. Here’s what we focused on:

 

Partners / Supporters

We ensured that Partners and Supporters could now easily see the impact of the programs, giving them the recognition that they deserved. Through our design, BGCC Executive staff were also provided recognition. And for the first time, the Find Your Club feature showed that there are 700+ BGCC service locations across Canada

Parents

For the parents of the youths participating in the clubs, our designed enabled them to more easily find out about the organization, learn about programs, and even gave them the opportunity to support their club as an individual donor.

Bilingual Audience

Our build was not only in English! We designed it to be bilingual, making it easy for content to be also published in French, allowing French-speaking visitors the ability to benefit from a bilingual site.

General

As the icing on the cake, we added features to help the organization reach out: a Careers/Volunteer section to attract those interested in getting involved, Newsletter integration to increase communication, and Social Media Sharing widgets to help boost the organization’s social presence.

Bringing Everyone Together

Since its successful launch, the site has seen a large jump in user activity, meaning more stories have been shared!  We were so successful in helping to provide BGCC with their public-facing site that they asked us to use the same fundamentals to help them develop a Members-only platform.
