4D Cityscape Game of Thrones Puzzle of Westeros

4D Cityscape

“We Will Design with Fire and Blood – House Radii”

Game of Thrones. Need we say more? Rarely can we have it all. But this time, thanks to 4D Cityscape and HBO, we got lucky and really did get it all. We were asked to be fully involved in the packaging design and print production of the 4D Cityscape Game of Thrones Puzzle of Westeros, from its packaging to the manual, and even the copywriting and all of the supporting interior artifacts!

The Story

Having helped out 4D Cityscape before on its awesome series of puzzles of cities around the world, we were approached this time with an even more important task: help them with their build of epic Westeros, from Game of Thrones. As 4D Cityscape moved into licensed products, we had to make sure that our packaging design, copywriting, and supporting materials all adhered to the limits of HBO’s license agreement and also to 4D Cityscape’s own stringent standards of quality.

Looking like we’re Westerosi

Package design, puzzle manual, supporting interior artifacts and copy; they all had to have the look and feel of being Westerosi. Luckily, our design team are die-hard GoT fans, so we got the feel immediately and felt an almost unworldly power for being able to take part in crafting such an epic puzzle piece.

The License Agreement: An Iron Throne

We’ve worked many times with license agreements before, so we know the importance of paying attention to the details and making sure things are done properly with all vendors and parties being taken into consideration. This prior experience proved beneficial to the project, as we were able to stay on course with the production schedule and deliver a timely product within the terms of the agreement.

Now hiring: Westerosi Scribes!

Let’s face it–none of us are George R.R. Martin. But our copywriters were given the task to provide copy for the descriptive 24-page manual and all materials that ship with the product. Days of research, reading all the original novels and watching all the seasons multiple times drew courage to our pens, and we wrote some great stuff that looks like it came straight from The Hand of the King himself!

The Outcome

After completing this project and seeing the product come to life, one thing dawned upon our team: when life deals you a good hand, remember to cherish it. This project was wild and we can’t wait to be part of the next one. We heard from 4D Cityscapes that some more GoT puzzles are coming soon, so stay tuned!
